Academic culture in Turkey and in the world has long been criticized for being hierarchical and discriminatory in terms of gender, age, ethnicity, and class. Overspecialization in academic disciplines, problems in integrating theory with practice, didactic and one-way teaching models are the issues of concern. Having these concerns in mind, we, the Peace Academics, aim to establish a research centre outside university intending to produce independent and critical knowledge. At this centre, we aim at facilitating discussions on more egalitarian and interdisciplinary academic models by taking into account the debates on pedagogy, design, communication and production of academic knowledge. At the same time, we aim to develop academic knowledge accessible to different segments of society by adopting interdisciplinary, holistic and practical approaches.
